MK Homeless Support CIC has issued a statement following an alleged rape in Central Milton Keynes, saying the incident highlights the vulnerability of people experiencing homelessness.

The organisation says it understands that the woman involved was a member of the homeless community and has called for stronger support, faster intervention and safer accommodation for people sleeping rough.
In a statement shared with MK Community Hub, MK Homeless Support said:
“Yesterday, we heard the deeply upsetting news of an alleged rape in Central Milton Keynes.
We understand that the woman involved was a member of the homeless community.
Rape is never acceptable in any circumstance. This case also highlights just how vulnerable people experiencing homelessness can be, particularly when they are sleeping rough or without a safe and secure place to stay.
People who are homeless can face increased risks of violence, exploitation and abuse, and this is exactly why stronger support, faster intervention and safer accommodation are so important.
Our thoughts are with the woman involved, and we hope she is receiving the care and support she needs.
We also hope this serves as another reminder to local authorities and support services of the urgent need to help people move away from the streets and into safe, stable housing as quickly as possible.
No one should be left in a position where they are exposed to this level of vulnerability.”
The statement follows an incident in Central Milton Keynes which is currently under police investigation.
MK Homeless Support CIC works locally to support people experiencing homelessness and says the incident underlines the importance of ensuring vulnerable residents can access safe accommodation and appropriate support as quickly as possible.
As the police investigation remains ongoing, no conclusions should be drawn about the circumstances of the case beyond the information confirmed by police.
