Faith, community and charity came together at Whitehouse Supermarket this week, as its final Ganpati Arti was used to raise money for people affected by flooding in Nepal.
The event took place on 24 September, with members of the local Indian and Nepali communities coming together for prayers, food and fundraising.
Organisers say £361 was raised and transferred to support flood victims in Nepal, with donations coming from customers, neighbours and well-wishers.
The evening was also attended by local councillors, including Keith McLean, Manish Verma and Krish Pillai, alongside representatives from Thames Valley Police. McLean was elected to Milton Keynes City Council in 2024, while Verma is also a serving Milton Keynes councillor.
Whitehouse Supermarket said:
“Ganpati Bappa teaches us Seva. Today we didn't just bid farewell to Bappa, we sent a message of hope from Milton Keynes to Nepal.”
The event also included recognition for local community members, before finishing with prayers for peace and recovery in Nepal and the sharing of Prasad.
A lovely example of a local celebration being turned into something that could help people thousands of miles away.
Well done to everyone involved and everyone who donated.
