Local Conservatives are bringing a motion to Milton Keynes Council calling on the Labour and Liberal Democrat coalition to take responsibility over the large increase in missed waste collections affecting residents in the last 12 months.
A Press release from the Conservative party.
Data has shown that MK Council’s performance on waste collection is inadequate with the Council failing to meet any of its targets for waste collection this year.
Figures reveal that missed collections are double the amount targeted by the Council with recycling and food and garden waste collections being missed more frequently.
The Conservatives say that with seven years of tax rises from MK Council that residents expect “consistent and non-disrupted waste collection” that represent “value for money”.
They are calling on the Council to prepare a winter plan to pre-empt and mitigate potential waste collection disruption while also demanding that there are more “robust” procedures in place to challenge future waste operators that underperform.
Cllr Alex Walker, Leader of the Conservative Group, said:
“Missed waste collections are an issue that residents contact us about regularly.
They are rightly angry that despite seeing increases to their Council Tax every year under a Labour Council, that they do not receive regular and reliable collections.
It is unfair that while the Council raid residents’ pockets even more, that the quality of our services decreases.
We need the Council to open their eyes, take responsibility and take action to improve the service and our motion will provide them with that opportunity.”
