MK Council is investing almost £250,000 in programmes to support women back into work.
Last year the council launched an ambitious £2.25m economic recovery plan with a commitment to fund local groups, specifically helping those most affected by the pandemic. Research suggests that women have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic; almost twice as likely as men to lose their jobs through the crisis.
The council is backing a number of organisations who are supporting women, including helping young mums return to the workplace. The programmes are designed to help women who have recently lost their jobs, are at risk of redundancy or are looking to get back into work after a career break.
Some of the programmes include:
Works For Us – local charity helping women find roles that suit them, with support available on CV preparation, job applications and interviews (contact: info@worksforus.org.uk)

Cabinet Member for Economy and Culture, Cllr Carole Baume said: “This year we’re marking International Women’s Day by rolling out a range of programmes designed to support women. It’s tough for a lot of people right now and we know that women have had their careers unfairly affected by the pandemic.
