Milton Keynes Council Conservative Group Leader, Cllr David Hopkins has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt MP, that East West Rail (Bletchley to Cambridge) will now proceed as planned many years ago.
This provides certainty for residents and local ward members and Town and Parish Councils all of whom look forward to working with the East West Rail Company to agree a design for the railway and its surrounds.
Cllr David Hopkins, whose Danesborough and Walton ward will feature two stops at Bow Brickhill and Woburn Sands, highlights the importance to mitigate the many potentially negative impacts the construction or upgrading of the line may have on communities locally. Communities must be enhanced by the railway and must not be allowed to be split in two by this project.
Cllr David Hopkins commented ‘what is needed now is a timeline between now and anticipated project completion (estimated as 2032) so that we can prepare the case, mile by mile, for the necessary infrastructure that will accompany the development of the route and to ensure that local people are fully consulted at every stage of the development phase’
