MK Council to Extend Ban to Tackle Alcohol Related Anti-Social Behaviour

A leading Cabinet Member will take a decision next week to extend an alcohol Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in 14 areas of the city.

Councillor Lauren Townsend, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said: “Through this PSPO we’ll be able to crack down on alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour, which impacts residents across Milton Keynes.”

“I’m especially pleased that the Blue Lagoon will now be covered by the PSPO, as I know some residents were concerned about alcohol related litter and anti-social behaviour in the area.”

The PSPO prohibits the drinking of alcohol in areas where people are likely to cause anti-social behaviour and gives the police and other authorities the power to hand out £100 Fixed Penalty Notices.

The current PSPO was due to expire on 20 October 2021, but Councillor Townsend is set to give the go ahead on it being extended for another three years.

Three new areas will also now be covered by the Order: the whole of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, West Bletchley, and Stantonbury Parishes.

Councillor Townsend concluded: “The Progressive Alliance wants to build better communities in our city, so that Milton Keynes can be a healthier and safer place; this PSPO will help us achieve that.”
