Milton Keynes Council will raise the Armed Forces Day flag outside Civic on Monday 21 June to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.
Mayor of MK, Cllr Mohammed Khan will be joined by the Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Paul Trendall to perform the flag-raising which will be live streamed online via the Mayor’s Facebook page.
Celebrations to show appreciation for the work of the Armed Forces will take place across the country when all local authorities are invited to raise the Armed Forces Day flag on buildings and famous landmarks ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June.
MK Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2017 and is recognised with the Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme for its work to support members of the Armed Forces community back into the workplace through its guaranteed interview scheme and range of supportive HR policies for veterans and reservists.
The Council also helped to launch a local veterans’ charity, the Veterans Community Network, which supports veterans, reservists and family members to access the right treatment and support.
Cllr Trendall, the Council’s Armed Forces Champion said: “These annual celebrations of our Armed Forces are the nation’s opportunity to recognise and thank the service of the men and women who serve their country for us, and their families who support them.
“I’m proud of all the work MK Council has done to support Milton Keynes’ local Armed Forces communities. We want to make the same commitment to our Forces that they make to us, every day, and in so many parts of the world.”
