Stony Stratford Bounces Back

Stony Stratford’s economy is bouncing back strongly thanks to a grant of over £14,000 from Milton Keynes Council to support events and initiatives which welcome shoppers and visitors into the town.

The money comes from the government’s Welcome Back Fund as part of the European Regional Development Fund. Stony Stratford Business Association is using the grant to publicise events in the town over the coming year, as well as supplementing the Christmas lights scheme and the summer floral and bunting decorations.

Stony Stratford has always had an enviable programme of attractive festivals, like the Classic Car Festival which took place at the end of August. With the economic down-turn of the past two years, financial support from the business community could not be guaranteed. The recovery grant means that Stony Stratford can look forward to the town’s economy bouncing back bigger and better.

Business Association chairman Ross Ellens said,

“It’s been a very tough time for so many of our businesses, most of which are small independent enterprises. We’ve lost a few retailers but we have also gained new ones during the pandemic. With the help that this grant will give us, things are really looking up.

“Milton Keynes Council has even more plans to assist the town by smartening up its infrastructure. Post-pandemic I think we can look forward to Stony Stratford being an even more attractive place to live, work, shop, visit and do business.”
