After almost a decade, Saturday October 15th sees the return of basketball to Milton Keynes with a new men’s team, the MK Breakers.
Playing out of Bletchley Leisure Centre, the MK Breakers represents the culmination of 5 years of work by the MK Basketball Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that now provides basketball for over 800 boys and girls throughout the city on a weekly basis.
Set up by husband and wife Peter & Alyson Taylor back in September 2017, the Foundation started life in a small gym in Shenley Leisure Centre, but has grown to become one of the largest community basketball clubs in the UK.
Originally Milton Keynes Basketball Club, this season saw the club change its name to the MK Breakers, paying homage to the infamous codebreakers of WW2 while at the same time re-introducing big time basketball to Milton Keynes.
The new team has hit the ground running in NBL Division 3 with a huge 123-58 win in its opening game away at Canterbury, with aspirations of earning promotion in the first season. The team also picked up a 1-point win this weekend, defeating NBL Division 2 leaders City of Birmingham Rockets 75-74 in the National Cup.
With the likes of local professional players Jordan Spencer, Blayne Freckleton and Mike New Jr who have returned home to play, as well as high-flying American Dante Langley, the team promises to play high octane basketball which will be great entertainment for all the family.
There are still a few tickets left for the next game this Saturday October 15th, as the Breakers take on the Bury Bulldogs at Bletchley Leisure Centre, 5pm tip off.
