Eager to continue their winning run, Breakers Men’s team travelled to the capital on Saturday, taking on London Cavaliers in their latest British Championship Basketball fixture.
Having lost at Bletchley Leisure Centre back in October, the hosts were looking to maintain their own string of victories, having beaten Hemel Storm, Newcastle Knights and Yorkshire Dragons over the past month.
Breakers knew that another victory would maintain their push up the league table, and from tip off Jordan Spencer set the tone for his side. In the opening five minutes of action, the Captain had registered seven points, three rebounds, two assists and a block to storm into a nine-point lead.
They would never trail, eventually running out 102-85 winners in an impressive team performance. Notable performances came from starters Dashawn Jackson (18 points) and Xavier Wilson (16 points, 7 rebounds), but it would be Jordan Spencer who claimed the Player of the Game honours, ending the contest with 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
The trio were complemented by Mike New Jr (10 points, six rebounds, 3 assists) and Luke Gregory, who weighed in with 10 points and four rebounds in less than 10 minutes of playing time, leaving Head Coach Ben Stanley delighted with his team’s efforts.
“It really felt like we turned a corner tonight,” he said shortly after the full time buzzer sounded. “We delivered a good team performance, with everyone doing their job and executing our game plan.
“If we can do that with consistency and intensity, this group can achieve something special this season, and as this game progressed it seemed as if that message really began to hit home.”
Breakers will get a chance to deliver on that promise this coming Saturday as Worthing Thunder travel to Bletchley Leisure Centre. Tip off is at 17:00 and tickets are available here.
