Riding a good streak of form, MK Breakers Men were looking to keep piling up the wins as they welcomed Worthing Thunder to Bletchley Leisure Center in Saturday’s latest British Championship Basketball fixture.

After a bright start to their own season, Worthing had failed to win consecutive games since early December, struggling for the kind of performances that had seen them top the table in the early months.

They were also short-handed, and Breakers seemed keen to make them pay for that as they began the game at breakneck speed. Jonas Dieterich hit back-to-back threes before Chase Thompson added one of his own to help the home side jump out to a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Thunder would keep within five or six until three minutes before half time when Breakers blew the game open with a superb run. Sparked by good defence and some solid rebounding, six different players would score to extend their advantage to 14 going into the half time break.

But the start of Q3 would see Thunder go on a run of their own, sparked by former Breaker Adrian Scarborough would poured in 10 points in that quarter alone. With the lead back down to single digits, it would be Jordan Spencer who stepped up to lead his team to victory.

After scoring a quick layup of his own, the Breakers Captain fed Ben Baker and Mike New Jr for threes and hit Xavier Wilson for a good finish at the rim. They never looked back from there, eventually running out 91-71 winners with Spencer recording a 17-point, 10-rebound, 10 assist triple double.

That saw him named Player of the Game, while Xavier Wilson (18 points and 8 rebounds) and Baker (12 points, 11 rebounds) gave vital contributions to a performance that Breakers Head Coach Ben Stanley enjoyed.

“There were lots of positives to take away tonight” he said shortly after the final buzzer. “We did a good job defensively, especially in the first and fourth quarters when we executed the things we talked about all week.

“It was another game that underlined just how good this group can be, we’ve just got to make sure we stay consistent with the things that make us successful.”

Breakers will get another chance to do just that when COB Rockets visit Bletchley Leisure Centre next Saturday. Tip off is at 17:00 and tickets are available here.
