Local charity, Milton Keynes Christmas Day Party for the Elderly (MKCDPE), have provided a Christmas Day Party for the past 40 years, for those elderly people who would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day. Sadly, 2020's party was cancelled due to the rules set by the government.
However, MKCDPE reached out to the Shenley Brook End Parish Council (SBE) for support and the response was amazing. Karen Wheeler and fellow colleagues at SBE Parish Council leapt into action, organising gifts of food hampers. Sourced and funded by the local Parish Councils and generous individuals, a total of 104 hampers were packed up and delivered by their staff in advance of Christmas Day. Karen’s team liaised closely with the MKCDPE Committee who reached out to the community to gather the information needed, and also arranged for a further 9 hampers and extra goodies to be delivered on Christmas Day by the ever-supporting MKCDPE Volunteer Drivers who would normally transport guests to the party.
A huge thank you goes to Karen and her team at Shenley Brook End Parish Council for allocating the necessary funds, for their kind efforts, enthusiasm, organisational skills and logistical back-up, for doing a fantastic job to put a smile on faces at Christmas time.
We are always indebted to our regular volunteers at Christmas, this year was no exception, so to those who went out on Christmas Day delivering hampers and goodies, spending precious time with the elders of our community – thank you once again for your support and commitment!
MKCDPE wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!
