Did you know getting to this mobility shop isn’t easy for mobility scooter users?

A local councillor is working locally to improve access near the CareCo mobility shop in Stacey Bushes, after concerns were raised by a resident.

The shop provides specialist mobility equipment for disabled customers where staff have been praised for being friendly and supportive.
However, getting to the shop independently can be difficult for some mobility scooter users.
Currently, there is no dropped kerb or safe crossing point nearby, which makes the final part of the journey hard to navigate without help.
While people can get close to the shops on Erica Road, they can’t easily continue to the shop without assistance.
The issue was raised by Heelands resident Colin, who lives with Parkinson’s disease and has recently suffered a stroke. His wife also has severe arthritis, and both rely on mobility scooters for everyday journeys.
Colin said:
“We can get close to the shop, but we can’t get to the last 40 or 50 yards because there’s no dropped kerb. It feels strange that a mobility shop isn’t accessible to people like us.
“We want to stay independent for as long as possible, but at the moment we’re relying on our daughter to drive us. This really shouldn’t be the case in 2026.”
Bradwell ward councillor Kerrie Bradburn has visited the site and is working with those involved to find a practical solution.
She said:
“The shop provides an important service for residents and it’s great to see staff already going above and beyond to help people.
“This is about improving the surrounding access so people can reach the area safely and independently.
“Even small changes like a dropped kerb can make a big difference to people’s daily lives.”
Councillor Bradburn has now applied to the City Council’s Accessibility Fund to help deliver improvements to the site, including the potential installation of a dropped kerb to create a safer crossing point.
She added:
“Milton Keynes was designed to be accessible, and this fund is there to help address issues just like this. I hope we can work together to deliver a solution that benefits not just one household but the wider community.”
