Local school children learn about how democracy works

Pupils from Long Meadow School were visited by Mayor Cllr Mohammed Khan (today 16.11.21) to learn about democracy and how Milton Keynes Council works.

The children took part in learning workshops with MK Council’s, Youth Participation Worker, Roz Mascarenhas to discuss who makes decisions locally and giving their views on how to MK a better place to live.


The pupils were then given the opportunity to quiz the Mayor and present their ideas to on what they like about MK and what they could change for the future.


Cllr Khan said, “It was a pleasure to meet and talk to the children from Long Meadow School today. The pupils were armed with questions and really had some great ideas about the future vision of the city.”


Year 5 teacher at Long Meadow School, Miss Devlin said, “The day of democracy was a great opportunity for the children to learn about how things work locally.”


She added, “The workshops and meeting the Mayor of Milton Keynes was an engaging exercise and they were able to explore so many different ideas as part of our day of democracy.”
