Milton Keynes MP visits areas affected by flooding

Milton Keynes North MP, Chris Curtis, has been actively engaging with residents and local councillors following the recent floods that have affected parts of his constituency.

In response to the severe weather, Chris has been meeting with those directly impacted, assessing the situation, and coordinating with key agencies to provide support.

Today [THURSDAY], Chris met with Cllr Jane Carr, a local councillor and key member of the Newport Pagnell Flood Group. He is also scheduled to meet with Olney Town Mayor, Cllr Debbie Whitworth, to explore additional ways to assist residents in Newport Pagnell and Olney. In ongoing discussions with the Environment Agency, Chris Curtis has been receiving regular updates and will be working closely with them to identify long-term solutions for flood risk mitigation.

Chris Curtis MP said:“I am deeply concerned about the recent flooding in Newport Pagnell, Lavendon, and Olney. My thoughts are with the residents who have experienced damage to their homes and businesses. At this difficult time, I am fully committed to doing everything I can to support those affected. I want to personally thank the volunteers from the Newport Pagnell Flood Group, whose tireless efforts have been invaluable during these challenging circumstances.”

Chris continued:“While water levels are currently receding, the forecast predicts more rainfall overnight, which could exacerbate the situation. I urge everyone to remain vigilant, check local flood risks on the gov.uk website, and sign up for free flood alerts if they haven't already done so.”

He also issued a reminder about the dangers of flooding:“Please avoid swollen rivers, as they pose a serious risk to life. Additionally, do not attempt to drive through floodwater—this not only endangers lives but can cause further damage to nearby properties.”

Looking ahead, Chris emphasised the need for long-term flood prevention strategies:“With climate change likely to increase the frequency of extreme weather events, including flooding, it is clear that more needs to be done to protect our towns and villages. I will be working closely with the government and the Environment Agency to ensure we have the necessary safeguards in place for the future.”
