MK Friends of MK Hospital Launch Online Shop To Help Patients and Family Members

Updated: May 22, 2021

MK Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community are an independent charity that has been supporting Milton Keynes Hospital and the surrounding community for over 40 years.

Over the years they have purchased many items including the hospital's first CAT Scanner, £2 million on medical equipment and other items like furniture, beds, wheelchairs etc.

The services they provide to raise these funds are for the MK Friends shop based in the blue zone of the hospital, which serves hot and cold food and drinks and sells a wide range of other items.

One service they had to suspend during the COVID 19 pandemic was the daily ward trolley, a little shop on wheels that would usually visit the wards 364 days of the year, run by volunteers.

Due to no visitors being allowed at the hospital and patients no longer being able to access the ward trolley or come to visit the shop, they've found members of staff were buying items from the shop to take to the patients.

This prompted MK Friends to launch an online shop. Patients and their families and friends can now order online and have items delivered to the wards.

Orders placed before 11am are delivered the same day.

A wide range of items are available including newspapers, magazines, snacks, drinks, essential toiletries, sleepwear, socks, underwear, reading glasses, ear plugs and even phone chargers.

Even as restrictions are starting to lift, not everyone in hospital has family or friends nearby so this service makes a big difference to those patients.

All profits go towards funding items for the hospital and to improve patient experience.
