Vintage Open-Air Cinema brings Hollywood glamour to Milton Keynes - MKCommunityHub

Vintage Open-Air Cinema offer a new cinema experience in Milton Keynes, giving audiences the chance to enjoy a great night out under the stars all whilst feeling like a star.

The local independent cinema screen classic movies in the great outdoors – complete with a little Hollywood glamour. Guests to the Art Deco style showings will be treated as A-listers themselves – walking the red carpet to their seats and waving their gold flags for table service from a traditional usher or usherette.

After VOACinema’s initial premier night in August 2019, showing the locally filmed 1980s cult-classic Withnail and I, they come into third summer with more ideas, creativity and excitement than the previous ones.

This year they will team up with local curry houses and offer MK its first Bollywood Open-Air Cinema – great curry served right to your seat, all whilst watching a feel-good Bollywood classic!

The events offer more than just a film, with the chance to dress-up, have a Polaroid snap taken upon arrival and win free tickets and great drinks. The food and drinks are often themed to the movie showing, and Sadie, Luke and their team get fully dressed up for the show. The 4D experience might have you feeling popcorn showering down on you, rice and the odd water pistol.

“We are buzzing for summer 2021. We are great advocates for bringing romance to people. It makes us feel like cinematic cupids! We thought there was a need to bring back some sparkle to cinema and make guests’ nights extra special. Ticket holders get to settle under the stars in a comfy chair with their loved ones, tucked in with a blanket and jazz music playing, surrounded by festoon lights; it is a magical, memorable night out.”

“We wanted guests to be able to fully relax and feel immersed in our nostalgic theatre setting and we have worked hard on creating a great ambience for the events. We think we achieved that and feedback has been great,” said locally based artist Luke McDonnell who runs the venture with Sadie.

Some of the reviews show people’s love for the new cinematic experience:

“Vintage Open-Air Cinema’s enthusiasm is contagious.”

“The warm welcome, the scene was set, we were dressed for the occasion, bar open, then the film rolled. A vintage party atmosphere, dancing, singing and so much fun or you could just cosy up under your rug. A totally new cinema experience one I can’t wait to repeat.”

“Great idea, great night out - so special and magical.”
