What’s new at Willen Lake in 2021

If you have taken a walk around Willen Lake in the last few months you will have noticed lots of exciting new developments taking place.

Willen Lake are hoping by the start of the season in April that restrictions will have begun to lift, and you'll be able to safely enjoy all the exciting activities they have planned. Their team have worked hard to curate a fantastic programme of activities both on and off the water, so take a look at what’s new for 2021 below.

Over the past year and during the previous lockdowns, Willen Lake saw the popularity of paddleboarding grow. In 2020 they offered a variety of paddleboarding sessions from Discover Paddleboarding to their weekly evening Paddleboarding club. New for 2021 they have also introduced a Sunrise Paddleboarding club which takes place every Sunday morning starting at 7am. In these sessions you'll be able to get out onto the water and have the lake all to yourself.

In 2020 they also introduced two-hour Wakeboarding sessions which proved to be a hit, so for this year if you're an experienced Windsurfer or Sailor, they've introduced new two-hour practice sessions for you too! These sessions will allow you to get out onto the lake and practice the skills you want, with their helpful instructors available if you need any further tips or advice.

For the past couple of years, they haven’t been running beginners canoeing sessions but after a two-year hiatus, Discover Canoeing is back! You can take part in this 90-minute session that will teach you the basic skills required for canoeing. This session is suitable for people aged over 8 years and is taught by a British Canoeing coach.

Although Wakeboarding isn’t new to Willen Lake, they encourage their regular riders to renew their Wakeboarding Membership for 2021, as for a limited time only we are offering 10% off memberships. You can purchase either a seasonal adult or junior membership that runs from April to October each year.

Did you know they also offer a variety of kid’s clubs? New for this year they’ve started up the Junior Windsurfing club, so if you’re aged 8-15 years then why not join? Running from June to September every other Wednesday this is the ideal opportunity to learn and practice your windsurfing skills.

If your goal for 2021 is to learn something new, then their watersports qualifications are something to look into. You can pick from their one-day Paddle Start Awards for both Kayaking and Paddleboarding issued by British Canoeing to a RYA two-day Sailing qualification, or even try your hand at a RYA Windsurfing course.

And finally, they are still on track to open our brand-new watersports and café building for our 2021 season. This dedicated space will house all of the watersports activities, new changing rooms and toilet facilities and reception. It will also be home to a fantastic new bar and kitchen. Willen Lake are soon to be announcing who they’ve partnered with for this space. We will be sure to keep you up to date with all things Willen Lake as and when the news comes in.
