Newport Pagnell South councillors have donated £1,500 from their ward-based budgets to support three popular community events in the town.

The funding will help to ensure that residents can continue to enjoy Newport Pagnell’s Carnival, Civil War Re-enactment and Cultural and Literary Festival, events that not only bring the community together but also attract visitors and provide a valuable boost to the town’s local economy.
Local councillors say these events play an important role in bringing neighbours together, increasing footfall to the town centre, whilst celebrating the towns history and culture.
Councillor Jane Carr, said the funding for the Newport Pagnell Carnival was particularly important following the impact of flooding in 2024:
“The carnival is one of the highlights of the year for our town. Sadly, two years ago the event was badly affected by flooding and organisers have continued to feel the financial impact. We wanted to help to ensure the event remains strong and continues to thrive in the future.
“It’s more than just a day out, it brings families together, attracts visitors to our town and supports our local traders at the same time.”
Councillor Tony Oyakhire, who supported the Bury Commoners Association’s Civil War Re-enactment, added:
“The Civil War Re-enactment brings history to life and draws people into Newport Pagnell from across the city and other towns and villages. Events like these don’t just build pride in our community, they also benefit our local economy.
“I’m glad the funding will help to cover costs providing essential facilities on the Common, ensuring the event can run safely and successfully.”
Fellow ward Councillor Andy Carr, donated £500 to Newport Pagnell Cultural and Literary Festival, added:
“Newport Pagnell has a proud cultural heritage. The Cultural and Literary Festival showcases local talent and creates opportunities for residents of all ages to take part. It also encourages people to spend time in our town centre, giving a welcome boost to our independent shops and businesses.”
