Basketball: Breakers Trio win National Awards

Jordan Spencer, Chris Tawiah and Buai Luak have all been recognised in the Basketball England end of Season Awards for NBL Division 2 South. The awards are voted by the coaches of opposing teams in the league.

Jordan Spencer was named league MVP by unanimous decision. He was also selected to First Team All-League (top 5 players in the league) and All-British team (top 5 British players in the league).

This comes as no surprise as Spencer has been dominant all season long, leading the Breakers from the front to National Cup and NBL Division 2 South League titles.

Jordan averaged 20.6ppg, 12apg, 8rpg and 2.7spg across the season, a near triple-double. He was also named National Cup Final MVP back in January thanks to his 34-point, 8-rebound, 11-assist triple double.

Chris Tawiah, who returned to play for his hometown club this season has had a huge impact on the team, providing a dominant inside presence. His efforts were recognised by the coaches across the league as he was selected to both the All-League First Team and All-British teams.

Tawiah averaged 12.5ppg and 6.2rpg whilst shooting a ridiculous 75% from the field, making him one of the most efficient players in the league. Chris’ experience has been crucial to the Breakers’ success this season.

Academy player Buai Luak has seen an increased role in his second season with the Breakers, playing a starting role for much of the season. The 19-year-old athletic forward has played a key role in the Breakers success, averaging 7.3ppg and 4.4rpg, whilst shooting 60% from the field.

You can catch the Breakers in action for the final time this season as they take on Solent Kestrels in the NBL Division 2 Playof Final, this Saturday 27th April, 6pm tip off at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester.
