Having won seven of their previous eight games, Breakers Men’s team were back in familiar surroundings on Saturday, welcoming Hemel Storm to Bletchley Leisure Centre in a British Championship Basketball clash.

The visitors arrived having not won a game since November, leading to them making a coaching change little over a week ago. That seemed to give them something of an edge, delivering a solid first half performance and going into the break with a slender 54-53 advantage.
However, Breakers had clearly seen enough. They started the second half with a 6-0 run sparked by Deshawn Jackson and Xavier Wilson, but it would be the fourth quarter when they truly put the game to bed and ultimately ran out 104-85 winners.
Jordan Spencer would lead the way, narrowly missing out on a triple-double as he registered 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Support came from Jackson – who led all scorers with 25 points – while a very efficient performance from Wilson saw him add 19 points from just 10 shots.
“I was disappointed with how we performed in the first half,” said Breakers Head Coach Ben Stanley. “Even though Hemel have changed a few things, we gave up too many easy looks and have to do a better job finding solutions within the flow of the game, particularly on the defensive end.
“We fixed that after half time and got back to doing what makes us successful, but our ability to do that will be tested over the next few weeks and we’ve got to be ready for that challenge.”
Breakers are back in action when they visit London Cavaliers on Saturday, before Worthing Thunder travel to Bletchley Leisure Centre on February 14. That game tips off at 17:00 and tickets are available here.
