Civic reception for local tech leaders ahead of AI Safety Summit

With one day to go until the global AI Safety Summit being held at Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes City Council is holding a city civic reception to gather the city’s most prominent tech leaders and stakeholders.

AI and data science is a common thread that goes through many of Milton Keynes’ anchor tech businesses.

Tonight, at Unity Place – Santander’s new UK HQ – guests will meet to discuss how AI and data science could be embraced safely, hearing from:

  • Bletchley Park Chief Executive Ian Standen

  • Director Data Science & AI at the British Standards Institution (BSI) Craig Civil

  • Santander’s Chief Data Officer Luke Pearce

  • Leader of Milton Keynes City Council Cllr Pete Marland.

During the evening, three artists who have been shortlisted to create a new permanent public artwork in Bletchley in tribute to Alan Turing will be announced. Alan Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence and was a leading participant in the breaking of German ciphers at Bletchley Park during WWII.

The event has been sponsored by the MK-based British Standards Institution (BSI), the world’s first standards body who will be at the forefront of AI standards and assurance.

“Milton Keynes is an obvious choice for the AI Safety Summit, with the roots of AI development tied into the important codebreaking work carried out at Bletchley Park. Data science and artificial intelligence are fundamental to many of the industry sectors that major in Milton Keynes, from motorsport to financial technology, logistics and advanced engineering, as well as playing an important part in the development of smart cities. “If Britain steps forward to become the global home of AI regulation, Milton Keynes would be the perfect location and we’d warmly welcome the opportunity to be involved.” - Cllr Pete Marland, Leader of the Council
