Milton Keynes City Council is reminding people about the upcoming elections taking place in the city on Thursday 2 May 2024, and the need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate before 5pm on 24 April if they do not have an accepted form of photo ID.
Elections are taking place across the city for Milton Keynes City Council, for the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, and for some Parish and Town Councils.
Last year, the UK Government introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. This new requirement will again apply in England at the local elections on 2 May.
Please visit the city council’s dedicated Voter ID page to check which forms of ID you can use to vote and, if you don’t have an accepted form of photo ID, how to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. You’ll need to apply by 5pm on 24 April to get a Voter Authority Certificate in time to vote in the 2 May elections.
Elections are taking place in all 17 of the City Council wards with one vacancy in each ward. Voting in the local elections gives residents the ability to choose their local ward representative on the city council. Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) elections are taking place across the country, including in Milton Keynes. The Thames Valley PCC is responsible for Milton Keynes and oversees how crime is tackled in the area. Today is the last day to apply for a postal vote (by 5pm) if you don’t think you’ll be able to get to a polling station on 2 May. Most residents will receive their postal votes this week, unless they have only recently applied in which case they should receive their ballot papers and instructions next week.
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on 2 May. City council and parish votes will be counted on 3 May and PCC votes will be counted on 4 May. City Council ward results will be published immediately at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/elections-2024.
