King’s Award for Voluntary Service presented to Milton Keynes based Redway Runners

Countess Howe, His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, presented Redway Runners Founder and Chairman, Martin Lawrence, with a Plaque and Certificate signed by King Charles to commemorate the club being awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for voluntary groups.   


Countess Howe read the citation, which highlighted the amazing contribution the volunteer-led running group has made to the Milton Keynes community over the last 14 years.   The Open University hosted the joyful ceremony, at which attendees were shown a specially made film highlighting memorable moments from the club’s history.   


Olney Brass Band entertained guests, who included many Redway Runner volunteers, Pippa Kirkbride (The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire), Chris Curtis (MP for Milton Keynes North), Paul Day (Mayor of Newport Pagnell) and other esteemed dignitaries.     


Redway Runners was created in January 2011 and is completely run by volunteers.  It caters for all running abilities, especially beginners. 


The club currently has over 3,000 active members who have a choice of more than 40 runs each week.  It is has proudly raised over £90,000 for charity.
