The City Will Come Together This Sunday For Carols At The Tree Cathedral

Every city has a cathedral and Milton Keynes is no exception with its unique and inspiring Tree Cathedral at Newlands.

Made entirely of trees laid out to form the shapes of a nave, spire, tower and chapels, the Tree Cathedral will really come into its own this Christmas-time when it provides the setting for a spectacular outdoor carol concert on Sunday 11 December.

Organised by The Parks Trust, the charity that cares for over 6,000 acres of the city’s green space, Carols At The Cathedral is completely free and everyone is welcome.

The event will start at 3.30pm at the Peace Pagoda car park. After meeting there, event-goers will be guided through a lantern-lit trail by the Grinch and his helpers, with live festive story-telling along the way.

Upon arrival inside the Tree Cathedral, which will be bursting with light and colour, MK Brass will play traditional Christmas tunes before Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Amanda Marlow, welcomes the gathered crowd.

Live performances of festive songs will be delivered by melodic duo, Motif, and outstanding local soloist, Jodie Erica who will then hand over to the public for a rousing round of traditional carols.

Delicious mulled wine and baked treats will be on sale with proceeds going to Willen Hospice and Camphill MK Community, plus MK Foodbank will be accepting food donations.

Commenting on the event, Julie Dawes, Events and Community Engagement Manager at The Parks Trust, said, “Our first open-air carol concert as a city is going to be a beautiful gathering that combines superb musical and vocal talent with support for incredible local causes. It will be an opportunity to feel really festive with friends and family in one of the city’s most stunning settings. We look forward to welcoming local people of all ages and beliefs. Remember to bring a torch and dress up for wintery weather!”
