Conservative Councillors are calling for £150,000 of investment into flood defences to ensure homes and businesses are better protected and more resilient to the growing threat of flooding.
Conservative Press Release: Measures proposed include a targeted flood defence support package for Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford.
The majority of the £150,000 would fund community flood recovery responders, purchase flood relief kits, automated flood alert signs and explore ways to strengthen the flood warning system through flood warning gauges and CCTV cameras.
Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford have felt the brunt of flooding in recent years with a range of issues such as excess rain causing an impact on residents’ lives who fear floods destroying their livelihood.
The Conservatives also want £15,000 to protect rural villages from flooding.
Conservative Cllr for Stony Stratford, Joseph Hearnshaw who has been working closely with the local flood action group in Stony Stratford, said:
“Flooding across Milton Keynes and for the residents I represent, is a serious problem so I hope that the Labour and Liberal Democrat group will not reject the chance to provide flood defences for homes and businesses across the borough.
I’ve been in contact with a number of residents who have raised this issue with me and are still extremely anxious of a repeat event.
It is vital that not only do we invest in our flood defences, but we use the most cutting-edge technology to get ahead of the game and safeguard our residents from the threat of flooding.”
