Sean Vendy & Ben Lane who train out of the Milton Keynes National Badminton Centre today secured Gold at the Orleans Masters 2021 in France.
Representing England, the pair faced tough competition throughout the tournament but early this morning (Sun 28th March) secured gold against a strong Indian pairing in the final, winning 2 games to 1, 21-19, 14-21 and 19-21.
Vendy and Lane have been climbing the world rankings and are tipped for Olympic status in the not too distant future and have recently seen their successes secure them a top 20 world ranking status, sitting comfortably in 18th position.
We spoke exclusively to the pairing straight after their win and the jubilation was clear to see on both of their faces.
Vendy told us, ''We're really happy to get our first Super 100 event title, it's been a while since we stood on the top step of a podium and it feels great after the year we've had.''
Lane was also extremely happy with their performance in the final.
''The Indian pairing played well in the final and took us a bit by surprise but as we got used to them, we found our feet and took control from the second set.''
It's been a tough year on and off the court with the pandemic having an impact on training and matches but the pairing have stayed focussed throughout and it's clear their hard work is paying off.
Vendy finished by saying, ''We've had so many messages of support and we can't say how thankful we are that so many people are watching back in the UK - we hope it's not too long before you can get back on the court yourselves.''
These are two names that you should definitely watch out for here in Milton Keynes as they climb the World Badminton Stage.
A massive well done to you both from everyone in Milton Keynes. We're right behind you!
