Man sentenced to prison for multiple burglaries targeting the elderly

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been jailed after he was convicted of multiple burglaries that happened in Buckinghamshire.

Patrick Doran, aged 46, of Corby Road, Cottingham, Northamptonshire was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday 6 August.

At a previous hearing, he pleaded guilty to one count of burglary dwelling and theft and four counts of burglary dwelling with intent to steal.

During the day of 29 March 2021, Doran targeted houses belonging to elderly people in Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Newton Longville and Stoke Hammond. When confronted by occupiers Doran made an excuse for his presence and left. Doran stole a necklace from one property, but was disturbed in the other properties before he stole anything.

Doran was arrested on 30 March and charged the following day.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rachel Huggins based at Abingdon Police Station, said: “These burglaries were targeted at innocent people within our communities, often elderly residents. We will not tolerate such behaviour in our communities and we will always investigate incidents thoroughly and put offenders before the courts.

“We advise anyone to ensure they get ID from people knocking at their door and not let them into their house or to give them any money.

“I would like to thank the victims for their support throughout our investigation, and I hope that the fact Doran will now go to prison will serve as some solace to them.”
