Mary Berry to judge online baking competition in aid of bereavement charity

Celebrity baker Dame Mary Berry will be judging the nation’s bakes as part of an online baking competition to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK.

Battle of the Bakes with Mary Berry is open to bakers of any age and ability. Individuals, groups, schools and businesses are being asked to ‘bake a difference’ by sharing their best bakes on social media, while also making a suggested donation of £5 to Child Bereavement UK.

The top ten bakes selected by the charity will then be put to a public vote to see which bakes are cream of the crop. The final three will be judged by Mary who will select the star baker based on overall appearance and creativity. The winner will receive a Mary Berry book signed by the author, a Kenwood Mixer (RRP £399) and £300 of Lakeland vouchers.

Child Bereavement UK helps children and young people (up to the age of 25), parents, and families, to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. The charity also provides training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families.

Mary Berry, who is a Patron of the charity, said:

I’m delighted to be judging this super competition in aid of Child Bereavement UK which is providing vital support to bereaved families. Baking is such a rewarding thing to do and I know many people have discovered or rediscovered the joy of making cakes during lockdown. I encourage everyone to take part and look forward to seeing everyone’s wonderful bakes in support of this amazing charity.”
